Pondicherry

Pondicheey is also called as Pudducherry and it is also affectionately called as Pondy. Since the year 2006, the place is called Puducherry. This is the union territory of India and was earlier the French colony. As per the historical data available, this was the Roman trading destination in the 1st century. In the 4th century, this was part of the Pallava kingdom of Kanchpuram. From the 10th to the 13th centuries, this part of the world was under the Chola kings. In the 14th century, this was under the rule of the Vijayanagara kings. The topography of this part of the world resembles coastal Tamilnadu and at this place, one can find many sea inlets also called as the backwaters. The climate of this part of the world is tropical wet and dry and here, one can find the famous ashram of Sri Aurobindo. He was one of the greatest saint intellectuals the country has witnessed.
